2gether sign up to Get it Right for people with a learning disability
2gether NHS Foundation Trust has signed up to Mencap’s ‘Getting it Right’ charter to show their commitment to ensuring that people with a learning disability get the healthcare they have a right to.
By signing up to the nine-point charter, 2gether is pledging to improve health services for people with a learning disability, including support in hospitals, access to an annual health check, awareness training for staff, providing accessible information and treating patients with dignity and respect.
Alongside the nine point charter Mencap will give 2gether practical guidance and advice on any adjustments that could be made to working practices when treating someone with a learning disability to ensure fair and equal healthcare.
Shaun Clee, Chief Executive of 2gether NHS Foundation Trust said: “By signing up to the Mencap charter we are showing a real commitment to improving local services for people with learning disabilities.
“We are working hard to help ensure people with learning disabilities across Gloucestershire have access to high quality healthcare.”
The Trust has developed a countywide ‘Traffic Light Assessment’ scheme and we continue to work with our partner organisations to provide specialist learning disability awareness training to both improve individual care and help ensure people with learning disabilities have appropriate access to mainstream services.
2gether’s dedicated and award winning learning disability community support team are enhancing the way services are delivered within the home.
Shaun Clee continued: “Signing the charter highlights our commitment to continue this work to ensure people with a learning disability are heard and their views listened to as we plan services to meet their future healthcare needs.”
David Congdon, Mencap’s head of campaigns and policy, said: “Our charter sets out a standard of practice and will make health trusts accountable to people with a learning disability, their families and carers. We welcome 2gether’s commitment to constantly strive to uphold these standards and help end indifference in the NHS.”
