2gether sign up to Herefordshire Carers Support Carers Charter
2gether NHS Foundation Trust has signed the Herefordshire Carers Charter in recognition and support for Carers across Herefordshire.
The Charter has been developed by Carers registered with Herefordshire Carers Support. It was signed by Baroness Fritchie, DBE, Chair of 2gether and Shaun Clee, Chief Executive of 2gether at the Adult Carer Forum. The signing was attended by carers involved in the development of the charter, Dr Jane Melton, Clinical Director of Social Inclusion at 2gether and Mark Hemming, Locality Director of 2gether’s services in Herefordshire.
The Carers’ Charter is based on the key National Standards. It also includes two further standards that reflect the need to see carers in their own right and to have effective processes for assessing their own needs. The standards are intended to describe what a good service to carers should look like and to monitor outcomes for carers.
It is used to monitor outcomes for the 38,000 carers in Herefordshire which include:
2. Having a voice
3. Carers Needs Assessments
4. Personal Health & Emotional Support
5. Providing short breaks for Carers
6. A life of your own
By signing up to the charter 2gether are committing to adopt the values, aims and standards within the charter as they work in partnership with carers within Herefordshire.
Dr Jane Melton, Clinical Director of Social Inclusion at 2gether said: “working in partnership with carers is important to us. Carers provide invaluable support to some very vulnerable people and they need to be valued, acknowledged and respected.
Signing up to the charter is just one way we can show our commitment to working together with carers. It also means that carers can hold us to account for our actions and fulfilling our pledges.”
Jane continued: “It has been wonderful to meet some of the carers today. We are now going to work in partnership with Herefordshire Carers Support to produce our action plan to set out how we will deliver on the standards specified in the charter.
The Charter was first launched at the Carers Rights Day conference on 2 December 2011. With other agencies who have signed the Charter, 2gether will report back on their progress at the annual Carers Rights Day on November 30.
