Celebrating World Mental Health Day 2gether

Get 2gether in Gloucestershire and celebrate World Mental Health Day.

That was the invitation from the 2gether NHS Foundation Trust which provides mental health and learning disability services in Gloucestershire.

World Mental Health Day is held annually on 10th October and the Trust’s Making Life Better campaign visited King’s Square, Gloucester to raise awareness of mental wellbeing; and the need to challenge the discrimination so often associated with mental ill health.

A Rethink survey shows that 9 out of 10 people with a mental health condition are affected everyday by stigma.

Dr Jane Melton, Director of Social Inclusion, said “We were confident that the people of Gloucestershire would get behind our campaign and show their support for the people in our communities who regularly face discrimination. They did and the day was a great success.”

Mental ill health is extremely common. In fact 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem at some stage in life. Campaign staff were on hand to answer questions and provide information on how to access mental health services.

Dr Melton continued: “We seek to promote greater public awareness and understanding of mental wellbeing and mental illness throughout the year. One way of showing support is to become a member of the Trust and in doing so, also help shape local NHS services.

If how you feel is affecting your life, speak with your GP. You can also find further information and support by visiting www.talk2gether.nhs.uk.
