MYTH: Learning disabilities are very rare |

FACT: There are 1.5 million people in the UK with a learning disability |
| MYTH: You can develop learning disabilities later in life |

FACT: A learning disability occurs when the brain is still developing - before, during or soon after birth. |
| MYTH: It’s easy to tell why somebody has a learning disability |

FACT: Even with a diagnosis, it is often not possible to say why someone has a learning disability. |

| FACT: At least 65% of people with a learning disability are willing and able to work. It is sad that fewer than 20% are in employment. (compared to 1 in 2 disabled people generally). |
