Infection Control

We have a comprehensive programme of infection prevention and control which has supported declaration of full compliance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of Practice for health and adult social care on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance.

The work plan of the infection control team includes assessing the infection prevention and control needs of community mental health teams and all our inpatient facilities. Outpatient settings used for clinical care have been audited with actions to provide more hand hygiene gels. Inpatient areas are also audited regularly.

The work programme also includes provision of education, reactive clinical infection control advice including onsite visits to all inpatient areas, review of sharps devices in line with the national requirements on Needle Safe Devices, active promotion of hand hygiene, surveillance for healthcare associated infections,  and advice on estates, cleaning and decontamination issues.
