Our team provides support to children and young people aged under 18 who have a moderate to severe learning or development disability, attend a special school and are registered with a Gloucestershire GP.

We also support other professionals working with children who have a learning disability.

Parenting Team

The Parenting Team is based at Acorn House and is very much a part of the Children and Young People Services. Referrals are accepted from practitioners working with young people and their families/carers.

You may also be referred following a choice appointment as part of the Early Intervention pathway.

Our evidence based parenting courses offer support on managing behaviour and input on positive discipline techniques. They aim to build on parents’ strengths, empowering them to feel confident in solving problems. This in turn promotes their children’s self-esteem.

The Parenting Team can be contacted on 01452 894320. This leaflet explains what help is available to you from the Parenting Team.

‘I feel honoured and proud to have completed this course and feel it has completely changed the way I look at life. I have taken on a more positive outlook of our family life and I am on a mission to ensure my son is so full of positive self-esteem that when the negative issues happen he is equipped to deal with them more calmly.’
