Learning Disability Inpatient Services

Gloucestershire

Berkeley House is for individuals with a diagnosis of learning disabilities, with behaviours that can be describe as challenging and/or mental health needs that require specialist input within a hospital setting

Berkeley House is designed for people to access for a short period while a specialist assessment is carried out and treatment plans put in place to allow the person to return to community living, either in their previous accommodation or new accommodation.

There are seven individual flats where service users have access to space that is not impacted by others. The service is modelled improving people quality of life outcomes and has Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) embedded within the support given.

The service works 365 days a year and is staffed 24 hours a day, with a qualified learning disability or mental health nurse on site at all times. Berkeley House encourages learning and encourages students to have experience of working with us.

Berkeley House works closely with the Learning Disability Intensive Support Service (LDISS) in an attempt to lessen the need for admissions to hospital and works closely with Commissioners and outside providers to facilitate safe discharge to new or existing providers and provide bespoke person centred training packages.

Referrals to the service can be made via Community Learning Disabilities Team (CLDT) and LDISS.

Berkeley House is a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency service which includes nursing, psychology, psychiatry, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy. Other forms of therapy can be sourced, such as art, music or physiotherapy, if the individual needs this.
